Private Utility Locating · Dallas-Fort Worth
Private Utility Locating in Dallas-Fort Worth
Texas 811 marks public utility lines up to the meter. Everything past the meter is private, and nobody marks it for you. We locate those private lines before you dig, mark them on the ground with depth readings, and give you a digital map of every line we find.
What we locate
- Buried power to detached garages, shops, barns, and pool equipment
- Gas lines to pool heaters, outdoor kitchens, grills, and generators
- Communication and low-voltage lines, including sprinkler control wire
- Plastic lines that were installed with tracer wire
What no locator can find
Plastic pipe without tracer wire gives off no signal, so there is nothing for any locator to follow. That usually includes plastic water and irrigation lines. Sewer lines are the exception, because we can run a sonde-equipped camera inside them. See Sewer Line Locating.
How it works
We walk the dig area with you first. Then we put a signal on each metallic or tracer-wired line with a 10-watt transmitter, which has the power to push through North Texas clay and rocky ground, and follow it from the surface with a professional locator. Every line we find is marked with APWA color-code paint and flags, with depth readings.
What you get
- Lines marked on the ground in APWA standard colors
- Depth readings along each line
- A digital map of every line we located
- Photos of the marks for your records
Who books this
Homeowners planning a fence, pool, patio, or landscaping, plus the crews who dig for a living: pool builders, fence and deck crews, landscapers, foundation repair companies, and electricians running new lines for generators, EV chargers, and solar.

Questions
How much does private utility locating cost?
A private utility line scan is $325 for residential properties up to half an acre. Add our sewer line locate in the same visit with the Full Dig-Safe Property Sweep for $499. Emergency dispatch, on site within 4 hours, adds $150. Larger and commercial properties are quoted by phone.
Do I still need to call 811?
Yes. Private utility locating supplements, but does not replace, the Texas 811 call for public utilities under Texas Utilities Code Chapter 251. 811 covers the public side. We cover your side of the meter.
How accurate are the depth readings?
Depth readings are estimates. Soil, nearby metal, and line depth all affect the signal. Treat every mark as a guide, and hand dig carefully near any marked line.
